Guest Anonymous
I've been investigating these cars for the THIRD time in two years now, and have a question for those of you who have owned and built these cars, or any other Datsun Z with 8" wide rims up front and 10" in the back. Conventional automotive wisdom says to avoid the high offset needed to attain these widths on the Datsun Z, so I am wondering if anyone has had any negative experiences here, or if the widths for the GTO replicars are not yet approaching the extreme where problems begin to arise. I've heard alot of this when it comes to the Fiero based kits, particularily Lamborghini and Testarossa kits which frequently use 12" or 13" wide tires in the back to make up the width difference between the Fiero and the exotic it's aspiring to be. Any input here is appreciated, thanks in advance.
SpeedRacer
Ashe - I have the Dayton wire wheels on my car that are 8" up front and 10" wide on the rear. I have no problems at all. There really isn't that much offset on the fronts. There is a couple of additional inches of offset in the rear but it has not caused any problems that I am aware of. PS Build one - you will love it!!!!
Dan Juday
I don't have a GTO kit, but I'm running 15x8 and 15x10's with fenders from John Washington. I bought semi-custom billet wheels from Billet Specialties Very reasonable @ $193 & $200. The tires are 265/50 & 305/50. I have coilovers and I ordered the wheels with 4 3/4" backspacing. I would have told them 4 1/2" or 4 5/8" if I did it again. This may not answer your question but if it helps any, great.
