Help!! Z32 LT1 T56 6th gear 2.5k rpm limiter

Recommended Posts

Looking for some help with one of the last quirks with my Z. Car runs great and is very strong I have a 1990 Z32 with a 94 LT1 T56 combo. Only problem is in 6th gear when the rpm's get up to 2.5k some kind of limiter is kicking in. No problems with any of the other gears. Any one every heard of anything like this?

Are you using an OE GM ECU? Is it getting a vehicle speed signal from the tranny? Is it possible the speed signal that is being read by the ECU is now different than what it is used to seeing? i.e. the GM ECU has a preprogrammed a speed governor and if the speed input pulses from the speed sensor on the tranny reach a certain point, the ECU will engage the speed governor.

Just a thought.

if the motor came out of a car that didn't have z rated tires, thats your speed governor. I had a 94 formula that came with h rated tires that cut out at 115 mph i think. So with the little tires that a z has, that would probably be around 90 mph or something like that. Get your computer tuned and have them max the governor out. I think you can set it to 255 with an obd1 lt1 computer.
