Guest jwelch
I'm reposting this again. This problem is starting to become very frustrating. I just finished the rear disk conversion and I still can't stop the car's wheel rears from turning. The car is on jackstands and when I put it in gear I have to "smash" the pedal hard to make the wheels stop. Even then they may stop for one revolution and then the tranny keeps turning them. When I do get the wheels to stop (while off the ground) the car almost dies. This has to be the tranny but I tried all the troubleshooting tricks to eliminate the tranny as a problem. I think the tranny is the issue, 700R4 with stock convertor. I'm ready to take the sledge hammer to the car soon. Any thoughts? Guest Anonymous
How are you controlling the lockup convertor?
Guest 72240Z
Try unplugging the wires to the lockup torqueconverter if that dosn't work your converter may be bad.
Guest jwelch
Thanks for the info. The lockup is hardwired no switch that I know (e.g. brake pedal) Last time I tried unplugging it, I think the idle was too high because the brakes still wouldn't stop the wheels. I will try this again tomorrow with the idle down. Someone had mentioned that the stock convertor isn't very good for Hybrid application. What type of convertor is everyone running? I want to keep it streetable so I think a 2500-3000 stall is too much IMO. Any comments? Thanks Regards,
Trevor
Here's a stretch. The "engine Stalling when brakes are applied" can mean there is a hole in the brake booster diaphragm, or a bad check valve. It is leaning out the engine's intake charge. Try plugging up the brake booster hose, close to the manifold, to test.
Guest kc6wfs
I'm running a stock converter in my 700R4 1200 stall I think.. Dave
Guest jwelch
Dave; How are you controlling the lockup converter? (e.g. switch) I think the guy that installed mine may have hardwired the converter to the locked position full time. Just a thought. I talked with one of the performance shops today about my cam and they said the stock convertor should be just fine, meaning I don't need a larger one. They said 2000 rpm would be the max stall for the street. Regards,
