Guest 240 4U2NV
Well I'm finally getting ready to start working on my z again after a long break. Its a early 73 240z with rusty floor and frame rails. I am planning on fixing the obvious rust and the floor and frame rails first. Then I am thinking I'm going to have it media blasted by a local shop. My question is what to do once the metal is bare. Should I let them coat it with their normal primer, insist on epoxy primer, or go with a rust preventer. I've read a lot about this but I'm not sure what the best route is. I'm thinking of having it coated in picklex, rust bullet, zero rust, or epoxy primer. Please correct me if any of the following is incorrect Picklex: Pros Clear - at least it looks like it from what I've seen, would be cool/helpful to see base metal Can be top coated - no need to remove it all before final prime and paint Prevents future rust Don't have to worry about time to complete repairs/surface rust Cons Not sure where to buy it I would have to brush it on at home after repairs Rust Bullet Pros supposedly the best can be top coated no need to remove before final prime paint prevents future rust Don't have to worry about time to complete repairs/surface rust Cons Not clear - not sure how much of a big deal this is I would have to brush it on at home after repairs Zero Rust Pros Comes in a spray can so I can spray areas after repairs Prevents future rust Can be top coated Cons Not clear Epoxy primer Pros good base for finish work most likely what the shop is used to using probably cheaper then the above rust stoppers Cons Doesn't prevent future rust I wouldn't be able to apply at home after repairs (no spray gun) Any advice or experience you all have had with these products would be great.
