fast idle actuator

Hello everyone,

I'm a member of the Classiczcars forum and recently found this one. I think this is more of where I should posting because of what I want to do with my 76 280z.

Anyways,

I recently got my car running again by replacing the fuel tank, fuel injectors and re-doing the FI harness. Now, when I start my car it idels really low and makes tons of black smoke, but only 1/2 the time.

I've searched both forums for topics relating to this problem but haven't found anything that hits the exact issue.

Today when I started the car up it was running really bad so I decided to see if anything would happen when I disconnect different vacuum hoses. I took off the fast idle actuator and the thing went up to 800 rmps, black smoke gone and runs well. has anyone heard of this or know what the problem is ?

Thanks.

Well, I started the car again and it still runs crappy, I guess something else happened the EXACT moment I pulled the tube off the FIA.

I figure that at this point I should just do a full vacuum and compression test. I also think my brake booster isn't working because my car stops; but I really have to push on the brakes and when I use the brakes the idle drops. This might be an electrical problem (1/2 my lights don’t work, might be a short that makes the alternator work harder?) but I guess it would be the smartest to just test everything before I make my next move.

Thanks for the advice cozy.
