Flexicoker
I've got a somewhat functioning dealer add-on AC compressor in my '73, it makes grinding noises and weighs about 40 metric ass tons. Will the later compressors fit my L24 if I have the bracket they mount with? ie. does my block have the threaded holes that the later bracket requires? Where do they mount? My current one mounts above the alternator. Thanks, Eric
Kennysgreen280zt
on the 280z and ZX, they mount on the drivers side below the manifolds. there is a cast iron (aluminum on ZXs I think) bracket, and then the compressor bolts to that.
randy 77zt
my 77 has working factory a/c-compressor is smooth and quiet.mounts on 4 threaded holes on lower left of the engine block.those old a/c were american piston compressors and took mucho hp to turn.plus not a very clean install. Zmanco
I switched to a ZX compressor and mounting bracket a few years ago on my 73 and it has been great. As other said, it mounts to the block with 4 bolts on the driver side down low. The mount is aluminum and weighs much less than the original Rube Goldberg contraption. I think I picked mine up at a local JY for about $25. The compressor mounts solid with no mechanism to adjust the belt tension, so make sure you get the idler pulley as well - that's how you adjust the belt.
