Coilover suspension Qs

I am planning to go coilover soon. I have new struts installed. Therefore I do not want to section the housings. I am running 16x7.5s with spacers. Like 40mm offset w/o spacers. I also read in a search that a 7" sleeve will give enough amount of adjustability....Any thoughts

My questions:

Is sectioning the strut housing a must?

Will I still need the spacers behind the wheels when coilover susp is complete?

Spring rates for a comfortable/sporty ride?

Any information will be helpful. Thanks

Sectioning is not a "must" and the coilovers will give you an automatic 2 inch drop with 10 inch springs. 7 inch sleeves wiil come out in the neighborhood of the strut tube gland nut on 280 struts if you use the stock spring perch locacation. I would keep the spring weight under 200 #'s with a 15 to 20 # higher weight in the rear. SCCA and Ross C are the experts around here and will give you a good deal on coilovers over the other competitors.

Yes, all the different sizes of adjusting sleeves will set on the old welding bead after the OEM spring perch sheet metal is removed with possible length trimming of the tube.. I obtained some very nice thick washers to use as new spring perchs for the adjusting sleeves to ride on the original spring perch welding bead from Ross Corrigan. My knowledge on the smaller diameter 240/260 Z struts is tapped out. Ask Mike/SCCA or Ross C. directly. Ross for some reason is not posting as much. I hope everything is all right. The use of the 7 inch sleeve will give you more adjustment. A five inch sleeve on a 2 inch sectioned 280 Z front strut comes flush with a screwed in gland nut. The rear 280 struts are longer. The sleeves are not cheap but one way to do this is order 5 inch for the front and 7 inch for the rear, For appearance, the strut tube looks very clean with a sleeve surrounding it all the way up but I doubt there will be much call to use the full 7 inches of adjustment travel much less the 5 inches and a 4 inch sleeve will do it all unless you are into "off roading". Stock Car Products has a free catalog 1-800-262-8099 that lists 5 inch adjusting sleeves for around $15.00 a piece/nuts $13.00. Ground Control makes the best nuts which SCCA and Ross carry and will fit about all the acme threaded sleeves. The standard coil over adjusting sleeve may fit the real early strut tubes. I bought 7 inch Bilsteins at auction and had them bored out for the 280 strut larger diameter size.
