I replaced my steering rack bushings with polyurethane ones on the Tomahawk 280 Z. I put in a 2+2 front sway bar to go with the 165 # Carerra 10 inch coilovers with some good scrounged rubber bushings from the two sway bars. I basically replaced the toasted rubber bushings with good used ones out of my "out back" Z collection. I could have went the total polyurethane bushing route on the car but the spending has to stop every once in awhile with in reason. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
TomoHawk Posted September 11, 2002 Author Share Posted September 11, 2002 I resist using the original stock endlinks with the newer, harder, urethane donuts, fearing that the metal 'washers' on the endlinks might break off. I could get another set of the stock, but would like to try something of a newer or better design. The steering rack bushing are irrelevant, because I'm planning on the power steering conversion. Guest Anonymous Posted September 11, 2002 Share Posted September 11, 2002 Unless they are weakened by rust, the stock ones should suffice.I cleaned mine up and finished with POR15. They are tuff. MSA,VB, Suspension Techniques, Ground Control should have replacements both OEM and super duty.About any heavier after market sway bar should come with special end links.Hey Tom, that Jag cap has the same contour to be placed right above the Datsun fuel filler// a natural. I have looked at the MSA adjustable end links ("Quicklinks" I think they are called). Thay are covered with rust, so need some cleaning & painting. WD-40 helped get the nuts off without breaking anything. Fortinately, this isn't an Ohio car. Guest Anonymous Posted September 14, 2002 Share Posted September 14, 2002 Be agood time to invest in a quart of black POR 15 or Hammerite, solvent, ospho (rust converter), and a few sponge brushs to wipe it on the parts. stay away from silver POR15 cause it turns to a sickly green tint. I did my engine bay in Por15 and was a disaster. Redoing in black HAMMERITE (a rust preventative paint) from Home Depot a lot cheaper and IMHO a lot better than Por15.
