Need some help diagnosing a Missfire

This is the deal:

got trip Mikunii 40's on the car, when running it hard (4500rpm+) it will tend to feel like it has a rev limiter on it and wont rev past 5500. Dicked around with the jets fuel pump etc and all seems like it is good.

Starting to look at ignition now and looking for advise on the ZX Distributor that is installed in the car. When that little black box on the side goes tits up what symptoms do you see? anybody have any troubleshooting tips? Any alternatives when replacing this box?

Thanks ahead of time for your help. Hoping to get it running strong for Daytona andthe convention hope to see you there.

I'm no mechanic, and I am just throwing this out there in an atempt to be helpful, because I had the same problem to diagnose. It ended up indeed being an ignition problem. For my situation, if I drove it medium to hard (in terms of acceleration) then I'd be LUCKY if I could get it to rev past 4,000rpm while on highway. It did feel like a limiter was on mine, but was just misfiring. My solution to my similar problem as you, was to give new spark plugs (I used genuine Nissan) and made sure to gap them to the specs in manual (I think for my l28e it was 1.0mm) Anywho, that's my 2 cents, hope this helps guide u in the right direction! :)

EDIT: I also did replace distributor cap and rotor, for they were showing more scoring than usual. Due to age, etc.

possibly not ignition, i had the same prob except lower rpm's, wat it turned out to be was moisture in the TPS jack and the jack below the AFM, blast those pretty good with air and see wat it does, Look around to see if theres any signs of water in the engine bay... hope this helps, even if it dont hope u get it figured out soon.
