Rod length for the 400 cid was 5.565. you'd be a little better off with 5.703 rods but the rod bolts might interfere with your cam. Some guys grind part of the rod bolt down. Some guys pay extra to get 5.7s that have a lower rod bolt for cam clearance. But going with stock 400 rods is OK. I've got stock 400 rods on my 383.
