280ZX L28 Turbo Motor

Hello All, I have an opportunity to get a ZX Turbo motor from oil pan to turbo. Not sure of the running condition and I am planning a rebuild anyway. How much are these going for? Should I grab the tranny or stick with what I have in my 78 280? Are the 2 compatible? I am going to grab everything connected to it since I can take it out myself. Anything hidden I should be looking for?

Look for a welded wastegate or if the actuator arm is messed with. These engines are pretty strong and unless there is a rod hanging out of it I wouldn't worry to much especially if you are planning on rebuilding.

Around here I would pay $150 to $250 for a complete turbo engine if I have to pull it. I like the 1983 tranny's which are Borg Warner T5. If it is one make sure you take the driveshaft to. Some people like them some don't.

Welcome to the forum. I am sure I missed something. If parts are cheap I would take a lot more probaly to...

Thanks Linec, Just talked to the guy and he wants $500 and he will pull it. He is going to get it running first and if not at least do a compression test before its pulled. He wants $1000 for the whole car which I would do if it was a 5 speed but its automatic.

Can I bolt the turbo to my current Z tranny?:wc:

Thanks Line, I found that just after posting. Good write up. I was thinking turbo stock and then go from there once its running. How do I check a wastegate for problems? Thanks for your help...
