need help on wheel sizinf for 280zx fast!

Recommended Posts

I've got an 83 280zxt and I'm looking at buying a set of wheels for the rear of my car. They're 15x9 wheels with 295/50/15 tires on it, and were mounted on a 76 280z and the owner of the wheels says they have 3.5 inches of backset. Will these fit on my car without hitting suspension? I've got stock suspension in the rear. Will I need wheel spacers? if so, how thick? Thanks for any help you guys can give as I'd like to be able to get these by thanksgiving. Also I'm aware that most likely they'll stick out of the fender wells, but I'm gonna mount slicks on them as they'll only be used at the track. I am correct in assuming that they'll stick out of the fender wells, anyone know if they'd scrape when accelerating hard?

With that back spacing they should clear your suspension but do you know how far they will stick out from the rear fender? I would bet 3 inches easily. Will they rub? unless you have the rear of the car way up in the air and very stiff springs, YOU BET they will rub. Can't you try the wheel on the car before you buy them?? Good luck, Mark

I have 10 inch wide x 15 inch diameter with 3 1/2 inch backspacing with the same size tires on the rear of my Tomahawk and no it will not interfere with the stock rear susppension or coilovers.... but will stick out of the fender wheels like a high school boy on a first date which will require about the largest after market fender flare avaiable. The Tomahawk rear fenders extend about 6 inches from the Datsun body sheetmetal which places the tires about 5 inches out. The wheel well openings were radically enlarged,You will be poking out about 4 inches
