Blown77Z
Plans for the powerplant will be a 383 stoker with a Weiand 177 blower on it around 500-550 ft/lbs I've narrowed down my search for a solid street/drag automatic transmission w/o going overboard on price. I'm in need of a nice auto trans with an overdrive in it for my highway driving, but wanted a stout drag racing trans too, so I've picked out the 700r4 Level 3 from Bowtie Overdrives: http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/catalog/catalog_inc/viewitem.php?ITEMID=9 To go along with this transmission I've picked out this torque converter: http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/catalog/catalog.php?Action=GETSUBCAT&CATID=XA1A4 To control/manipulate the shifting on this transmission I have this picked out: http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/catalog/catalog_inc/viewitem.php?ITEMID=217 (Could change part out depending on what carb is used) I just noticed that JTR provides a complete speedometer gear set for the 700r4. Any other parts that I might have missed for the transmission ? Or any comments or concerns. Please let me know Thanks
getZ
I have a level 2 200r4 from Bowtie Overdrives and am very happy with it. Personaly I like the gear spread on a 200 versus a 700. The drop between 1st and 2nd isn't as drastic. For a rearend gear I have a 3.9 and a 2400 stall. I have approximately 400 normaly aspirated horspower and find the 2400 slips more than I need. It's a personal preference sort of thing, but I would prefer a little less stall, maybe more like around 2000, unless you spend more time on the drag strip. As for the speedometer cable, no a GM cable does not fit into the stock speedo. JTR makes one that will work. Hope the rear driveline survives. Stock half shafts will break with a decent set of tires.
