Guest ShelbyZ
I'm currently using the Arizona Z Car front brakes. The one with the 12.2" rotor. Just wondering what size and offset of wheel used to get the wheel to clear. I was using 16x8 zero offset wheels with I guess you would call it a low disc wheel. It had lots of clearance for the caliper. I would like to get a deeper dish wheel. Something like 16x8.5 negative 6 offset in the Watanabe R Type wheel. Is anyone using this size wheel or similiar mounted around this brake setup? Or what did you end up using to clear brakes? When I bought the brake setup I was told to. Use a wheel that was not flat from hub center to outside. So that I would have clearance for the caliper. I was about to order wheels in the size above for the front and then remembered about the caliper clearance issue. I don't forsee any problems at the rear. Using Ross's setup back there and it works great! Merry Christmas and Thanks, ShelbyZ
Guest ShelbyZ
Your welcome Ross C. On my search I saw a post talking about SCCA's similar brake setup. He said for a little more he could get the Wilwood calipers. So maybe the Outlaw brakes are a similar size of caliper. Also one thing I forgot to list. I am using the 75-78 280Z front hub. I think if I go back to the earlier style "240Z". This will move the hub out a little more to make the hub face more even with the caliper. The hub is behind the caliper now. Thanks and Keep ZZZZZing, ShelbyZ
Modern Motorsports Ltd
ShelbyZ, thanks for the compliment. It often comes down to individual clearances for the wheels of interest. I'd put a flat edge across your front hub and measure out the clearance you require for both the caliper front face and outside diameter of caliper/rotor assembly. With good measurements you'll know with absolute certainty if they'll clear or not. You can even send them to your intended wheel supplier to verify their clearance if they don't have wheel specs/templates to supply you. Then you can make it their responsibility to ensure they'll clear assuming your measurements are good and you allowed for appropriate clearances (0.100" is fine). Measure twice/thrice....and order once I'd suspect most wheels you'll look at would likely clear, and if it's a small 'facing' clearance, a slight spacer could allow you to run those brakes and your favourite wheels! Good luck!
Guest scca
AFAIK the front of the hub face is the same on all Z.. 70-78 the REAR of the hub is a diffrent thickness and that affects the thickness of the rotor hat ONLY. wheel offset if not affected
