Guest Anonymous
Guys I need to understand how to remove the whole L and R rear assemblies from the half-shaft out on a 280. So, there are 4 bolts on the half-shaft, then the long bolt on the control arm (bottom), then the 3 bolts at the top of the shock tower and of course the brake lines. If all of this stuff is removed on either side shouldn’t the whole thing just come out? I’m trying to get some 27 spline stub axles from a 280 and I’m just going to take the R and L assemblies from a yard and then take them apart in my garage. Is this possible, or am I missing anything. Please help! Regards, Tom
Guest Anonymous
Unbolt the half shafts, remove the two inner control arm clamps, unbolt the three nuts from top strut tower and remove the assembly. The long pin for the control arm to strut assembly is a complete B!#@& to get out even if you have press. I believe it comes out the rear if your game. Each half of the pin is a different diameter with a locking pin underneath.
Guest Anonymous
Jet, Thanks for the info. I have never removed this stuff before and thats the kind of thing I want to know about before I'm out in a yard with my toolbox "remove the two inner control arm clamps" I assume the whole lower control arm will come off if these clamps are removed? Guest Anonymous
Tom, You got it, 4 bolts holding the inner part on, 2 for each u shaped clamp holding the inner part of the rear control arm and the the 3 bolts at the top of the strut inside the car. And the 4 bolts holding the half shaft on. Then the whole thing falls on your chest.
