Guest Nitrox
Hi everyone. This board was recommended as a place to go to for solid Z car advise so here I am. I'm a contractor and while working over someone's house, the homeowner brought up a subject of fun sports cars. After talking for a bit, he took me over to the garage, and proudly showed me a MINT 1984 turbo Z. I was rather surprised because the car looked showroom fresh with minimal wear at nearly 90k miles. He told me a sob story about how the timing belt snapped and he can't afford to pay the dealer-quoted unbelievable amount of money to get it fixed. Now this guy is old and has "dealer is god and OEM is best" mentality. He loves the car, but can't really afford to get it fixed, so I told him that I'll do some searches on the internet to see what his options are. First and foremost, can anyone recommend a specialized shop that will handle this car in professional manner in Eastern PA, NJ? Is the engine VG30ET? Do valves smack into the pistons when the belt goes? Would you guys suggest buying another motor or just rebuilding the existing one? Aside from 240SX throttle body, what other cool cheap mods can I recommend to him? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
randy 77zt
engine is vg30et-and yes it is a crash motor.they changed them later in think-but not sure.when i was working as a tech many years ago in sf bay area i fixed a na car that crashed the valves.if you have a place like pick&pull just get some used heads>if the car has been sitting the injectors will be plugged_rotten fuel lines-rotten water hoses.so to get the car back to daily driver status it will be some work.
