dsommer
I've read the old posts but was wondering??? This question goes back to my Sanderson exhaust question. I am not running the front X member spacers, if I were to install them would I gain clearance from the steering shaft? I believe I would since the spacers would in effect lower the cross member but wait the engine rests on the X member too there for the whole assy would be lowered thus gaining NO additional clearace from the bottom of the collector and the steering arm. I'm friggin confused, the header delema on Z's with angle plug heads absolutly SUCKS, never again, never. ds
Dan Juday
It may actually get worse. It depends on were your headers line up with the shaft now. The only thing that changes is that the upper end of the shaft, where it goes through the firewall, gets higher in relation to the engine. This can either help or hinder header clearance. Sounds like what may be the best solution in your case is to use a mid shaft u-joint and locate it with a heim joint. Others here have done that (Alsil?). I've seem pics somewhere. Then you will have a much broader selection of header options.
dsommer
Thanks Dan, I thought I was the only one on the board this morning... I would do the heim joint but don't feel like I have the skills and knowledge to do this. Mike K sent me a pic of his but still am having trouble figuring it out. Having the engine in the car doesn't make it any easier either. I'm going to order Hooker headers from Summit later today and we'll see what's up when they come in. If not I may just go down to the rod and custom shop $$$ and see what they can do for me there. Heck if the price isn't too steep I may have them go ahead with a custom 6pt cage for the car too, we'll see. I guess I can go forward with the other install items for now while I wait on the headers... ds
Guest sector
David, The Crossmember spacers only allow for more clearance between the top of the engine and the hood. It is supposed to also help with your CG but, I have heard alot of people say that they liked the handling better without the spacers. Dan is right it could end up making the situation worse depending on your headers. Brian-
Guest Anonymous
There is divided opinion on 1/2 inch front cross member spacers. I put em in.. withuot any clearance problems to solve with an additional 1/2 inch height. Why don't you do do a "look see" and install them. It is only four bolts on each side.If you do not like what you look and see pull em out like an ingrown hair.
