DennisK
Does anyone know if the ZF trans will work in a Z? I know nothing about it other than I can have it for free!
Guest Frank280z
Dennis, As per Car Crafts June 00 issue on Moster guide to tranny swaps. The ZF 6 speed is used exclusively in 89-96 Vettes. It is massive, durable, and very expensive. Rebuild parts are hard to come by. Vette warranties require a core trade. It shares no common dimensions with other GM manual trannies. The nonstandard bellhousing only accepts Vette pull-style hydraulic clutch. Three different input shafts used behind the lt1/lt4 and dohc lt5. Dual-mass flywheels are used to reduce noise. They recommend talking to the guys from- Corvettes By J&D 0r S&K Speed. Price listed $2,950 J&D. Frank ------------------ Build it. Drive it. Improve it. DennisK
Thanks, Frank. It sounds more complicated than the Muncie, and I use the KISS method of auto building out of necessity!
BLKMGK
JTR was also VERY critical of that piece as I recall. Noisy, heavy, BIG! They pretty much reccomended that folks stay away from it. The T5 and T56 seemed to be their favorites. Sometimes you get more than what you ask for when you get something free
