Drax240z
Morgan I am 90% sure that if you use an S30 from 73 or later, they'll be the same. Not sure about the T5, but I would wager if you use the T5 and T5 driveshaft together, you'll have no problems with any Z 73-83. ------------------ "Gimme Fuel, Gimme Fire, Gimme that which I desire" -Metallica Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html http://members.home.net/drax77/newpage.html
Guest Anonymous
It one puts a 280zx turbo t5 transmission in their s30 body, is the stock 280 turbo driveshaft a direct fit, or does it need to be lengthened/shorted? If so, by how much? ------------------ Morgan http://z31.com/~morgan/s30 http://carfiche.com
Guest Anonymous
So, can anyone verify this? Why would 70-72 be different from 73-78? ------------------ Morgan http://z31.com/~morgan/s30 http://carfiche.com
Arif
Morgan, According to my haynes manual here are the measurements: turbo driveshaft length spider to spider 22.64 in 75 280Z 21.7 in 76 280Z 22.24 in 240 w/4sp 21.26 in 240 w/5sp 20.47 in As far as wether the driveshaft will fit with the t5, I don't know if there is enough play to squeeze the larger turbo driveshaft in a 240. If my memory serves me correct a friend of mine had to cut the stock turbo driveshaft when he installed the t5. Hope this helps.
Evan Purple240zt
Morgan, heres the answer youve been lookin for... the T5 driveshaft is too long for a first generation zcar. If you loosen the trans and get the driveshaft on the diff, it will work. But really needs to be shortened about an inch. I will be running mine too long until spring. I dont drive my car in the midwest winters, so it can wait! Evan PS... bryan littles page shows this install in his car. The crossmember for the T5 WONT line up either. I dont know bryans website add. but its under links on zcar.com!
Guest Anonymous
Well, what I have now is a l28 and tranny from a 77 280Z in my 73 240. I'm going to only replace the head and leave the gimpy 77 5 speed in there until I find a t5 or it blows up(presumably it'll do that fairly quickly). I don't know what year/model the driveshaft that is in there now came from. Bah. No fun having a driveshaft shortened around here! ------------------ Morgan http://z31.com/~morgan/s30 http://carfiche.com
