Guest Anonymous
I just got my 1974 260Z 2+2 (see link). It is a monster. I was a little disappointed since I won it on e-bay that it is a scarab conversion especially after I got the JTR book. It has a 383 Chevy, TH350 Tranny, 2 1/4 exhaust, Holley 650 Double Pumper, Edelbrock Cam. Probably between 375-400 hp. Got to get a 740R4 Tranny. I was thinking about moving it back in the JTR position, but then I noticed the absolute sweet job that Scarab did in adding Power Steering. Then after searching the board I realized. I am probably the only one out there with Power Steering. So, Power Steering or JTR position. Choices choices. Gonna stick with the Power Steering for awhile. Please welcome me to the club. 1974 260Z 2+2 http://pongopix.com/upload2/mullemaus/datsun37 http://pongopix.com/upload2/mullemaus/datsun12 http://pongopix.com/upload2/mullemaus/datsun08 http://pongopix.com/upload2/mullemaus/datsun01 http://pongopix.com/upload2/mullemaus/datsun21 http://pongopix.com/upload2/mullemaus/datsun04 http://pongopix.com/upload2/mullemaus/datsun06 http://pongopix.com/upload2/mullemaus/datsun2 http://pongopix.com/upload2/mullemaus/datsun14 http://pongopix.com/upload2/mullemaus/datsun24 http://pongopix.com/upload2/mullemaus/datsun23
jeromio
Why would moving the engine back closer to the firewall preclude powersteering? Is that your Testarossa in the garage? Yikes.
BLKMGK
Louvered hood and access doors? Sweet! Looks really nice man and the extra 2 seats are probably nice to have. Can you get some closer pics of the power steering setup? I'm wondering why the JTR setback would preclude you using the power steering - would the pump be in the way or something? Were you given any details on the steering setup? The rack isn't stock is it? Don't know much about the 2+2s... Anyway, congrats - it's a pretty nice piece you've got there! Guest Anonymous
Welcome to the club! Your car looks great, but I also would like to see some close-ups of the power steering set up if possible.
Guest Anonymous
The JTR setup will alot power steering. Alsil in the Ford Forum has done it rather successfully by his reports. He used a Ford power rack, made mounts and if memory serves used 95 (?) mustang tie rod ends that bolted right up. Al, if your out there, please confirm that please? Terry Oxandale did it as well, similar setup, but Terry used spherical bearing ends instead of tie rod ends. Regards and welcome to the Forum, Lone
DavyZ
James, welcome to HybridZ! You picked up a very nice ride from ebay, and although I am a firm believer in the JTR setup, I really don't know how much bearing there will be to handling since you have a 2+2. My reasoning goes like this: the JTR setback position helps in handling for a 2 seater since it puts the weight bias back a small amount. Your car has plenty of weight bias in the rear already because it's a 2+2. See? Don't bother working on a good setup! If it's not broke, don't fix it. Remember, this is from a hardcore JTR fan... RPMS
VERY nice ride! I don't generally like the 2+2's, but yours is so clean, it might just make me change my mind! The side views make me wonder whether a 2+2 wouldn't make a more savory convertible than a coupe would? The extra length might make it seem a bit slinkier, like the Jag E-type was. Just a thought... Scott Ferguson Big dreams, small money, and an ever-growing pile of V8 parts cluttering the garage...
Guest Anonymous
The Power Steering Box (though small) would interfere with the exhaust or visa versa if I moved the motor back 3". I think the comment about the extra weight in the back is correct. It is kind of "nosey" but hell it's like somebody sitting on your hood. I'll post some photos soon of the power steering set-up. It drives almost too easy.
BLKMGK
If the steering has too much boost there are some ways to slow the response depending upon the pump and rack used. Street rods run into this problem all the time and a solution can be found using their tech I'd think.

Guest triple_threat311
your car looks great. If you don't mind me asking, what was your winning bid on the car? Also, is that your ferrari int the garage? WOW. I like z cars and all, but if I had a choice of a ferrari and a z car, I think that I would choose that red one.
