I'd like to stuff my 455 BBO engine in it, but it needs rebuilt and I'm pretty much stuck with a 4 speed unless I spring for an aftermarket tranny. There is a 4.8L Vortec engine with 70k for sale for 500 bucks near me. I'm interested in using it since its cheap and makes plenty of power (and chevy engines have many more manual transmission options). My knowledge of chevy engines ends with the LT1. Is the 4.8 similar in size and mounting position to an older SBC? I've seen older SBC's in Z31s and they fit quite well. What kind of manual transmission options do I get with a 4.8? i r teh noobz Posted September 5, 2008 Author Share Posted September 5, 2008 Well, it looks like the 455 won't fit. I'm very interested in this 4.8L. Its still for sale for 500 bucks with alternator, power steering pump, and a/c compressor. It also has a 30 day warranty. Does anyone have any input as far as manual transmission choices? Will a 5.3/6.0 harness work with the 4.8? How about the ECM? I've done some searching, but everything I find is about the 5.3 or 6.0l engines.
