Guest Widebodys30
Here she is as I met her. Kinda stupid to polish her before a 280YZ kit, bodywork, and paint. But I could'nt help myself! Amazing what a little love can do. Or a lot. Took me polishing it 5x to get this shine. Kinda stupid, but I AM proud of her!! That dumb A$$ spoiler gotta go! AH! That's MUCH Better! Red and Black interior is the goal. Look MA! NO CANCER! Stupid spoiler, gone. MUCH better! Probably the same idiot who cut the roof to put in a sunroof! Uh oh. What's THIS? Looks like a Subtle Z front end before final fitment! And YES! That IS a parts bin inside of the engine compartment. You guys with a garage consider yourself blessed. I'm not even supposed to be working on a car here. Hard to be covert when you grind!
Guest Widebodys30
Update. Bought a buncha stuff off what seemed a on the level, hard workin' college kid. I Brought home: A) 2.8L with a N42 Head, on a N42 Block. The best N/A head(IMHO), without destroying a vintage Turbo P90. And the best Block (IMHO), as the walls apparently are MUCH thicker than the F54. I'll take MUCH thicker, over siamesed, any day!! A 2.6L. Higher miles, E88 Head. Pulled out of a running car. Still see cross hatch, and no ring ridge. THAT'S Nissan!! C) Four speed trans. I'll be using it for now, as I have more pressing priorities. D) 240Z Drive shaft E) 240Z half shafts. F) Accel Super coil. G) R180 Differential H) A very much Like New 1/2" X 3 row brass radiator. I) 2 piece fan shroud. J) Factory white plastic Fan and what seems to be a good clutch. H) Good Alternator and bracket. I wanted this block and head so badly I traveled 200 miles one way. In a Auto trans Toyota king cab. Came to @ 75 bucks Fuel for there and back. Did great up the hills and in corners, even with 1,000 lbs. of shyt in the bed. TY Toyota. TY Zoltan!! Yes, That's his name. He's the guy I bought my 240Z from. Awesome Guy. I now have TWO low mileage N42 Heads, low mileage N42 2.8L short block, and a bunch of low mileage basics that I needed. I plan on Pistons, rings, all bearings, gaskets, Oil pump, timing chain, and the largest cam I can use with stock springs(for now). I am guessing very minimal on machine work, if any at all. Got lots to clean, and measure. My parts collection is too big again, as well. Gotta consolidate my storage AGAIN! Engines! Engines and Superchargers for Sale! Engines and Superchargers for Sale! Guest Widebodys30
Check the link out: http://www.kameariusa.com/L6_DatsunValveCover.php I actually have one of the very first iterations of this casting, originally cast by Kakimoto Racing, back in the 70's or 80's. The plan is to paint the head and block a bright "Ford Y block" red. Black wrinkle paint with polished fins and letters on the cover. Should look really effin' exotic with my Mikuni setup, and compliment the white body!!
Guest Widebodys30
This is close, save a Mikuni Short Runner, No A/C (for now), and a red block and head. Partial current "engine accessory" parts list, Ready to Go: Billet spin-off Oil filter and cooler(need adapter yet), Accel Super Coil(customized), Holley "red" electric Fuel pump, Billet block off/Inspection covers, Billet water pump pulley, Custom billet alternator fan and pulley, and black winkle paint, polished fin Kakimoto 280Z Valve cover(customized). Guest Widebodys30
This remote Billet oil filter should be nice. Also have aeroquip lines, to and from an external oil cooler... And a billet Water pump pulley: Super Coil! lol Needed to be color coded here

Guest Widebodys30
Just for a change of pace, I re-installed the grill after installing the Subtle Z wide-body fenders. I also installed an almost new 3 row brass radiator I bought when I bought the 2.8L(thanx again, Joe!). I'll probably remove it when it comes time to drop the engine in, but I had to modify the straps to fit between the rails, so I figured I might as well get it installed and ready to fly. I've had this stuff what seems like forever. Must be like 5-6 weeks now. It's a Chinese or Mexican made Radiator, maybe even for another Z(X?), but who cares, the deal Joe gave me on it. It's obviously nearly new. A good washing, and it LOOKS brand new. Looks great, fits great(now), and will cool anything the 2.8L can dish out. That's what matters. Guest Widebodys30
Brilliant white 1973 240Z. Yes, I still have LOTS of sanding and detail work to do yet. Trust me. I see it all, and it WILL be done. But, I'm not bitching. Looks ABSOLUTELY KILLER for 40 bucks! And a MILLION times better than that Metallic Shyt Brown!!! Colors like that are proof everyone in the 70's were doing hard drugs, IMHO. Metallic Shyt Brown? Baby Puke Green? I'll never understand... Re-installed stock grill(for now). Lame 70's molded on spoiler, GONE! Nearly new, 3 row radiator, installed(pics just don't do it justice how clean it really is) My Z, in Stealth mode(I'm not supposed to be doing ANY car work here! Guest Widebodys30
I ventured up to the North Bay, and traded my narrow a$$ 14x7's for some 14x8's, and 14x9's. WOW! The rear wheels STILL aren't wide enough!! As much as I hate to say it, I might have to run 1" spacers. I could probably use 1 1/2" spacers, but I'm leery of even using 1"ers. Here are some pics of the quarters roughly mounted, and the new wheels... I also got one of the rarer, higher quality rear window louvers. More pics this week... Guest Widebodys30
I finally got the 280YZ quarters mounted. Not permanently, as I don't have a welder. More to get them out of the way, and see how they look. I still need to cut the wheel wells, and I want to bond the quarters on with fiberglass. BTW. If you are considering buying these, a warning. The fit and finish of the pieces themselves are absolute SHYTE! The wheel wells aren't anywhere near a consistent size left to right! Awesome style, but expect a LOTof fiddling and tweaking to get them NICE! I just slapped 'em on as I said. Still have lots to do for me to be 100% happy with the final result. I guess that's to be reasonably expected from a very, very low production, semi-hand laid fiberglass part. I also mounted the fairly rare, thick material rear window louvers I picked up. I had to pretty much restore them. They were missing a rivet or two, and the center support was broken in two places. Paint was severely faded to near grey. Still needs a little work, but looks nice enough for now. Also, the new to me, 70's vintage and UBER rare(from what I gather so far), 14x8(Front) and 14x9(Rear) Performance Specialties wheels mounted. 35MM spacers are being custom made by a friend @ Ratsun. Lips will eventually be polished, raw spokes, and black in the cut outs. GREAT suggestion, "Bonvo"! BTW, the front bumper is just laying there on the brackets. I want to cut out the later model bracket spacer tubes, to sink it towards the front of the car @ an inch or so.
Guest Widebodys30
Been a while since I've had a chance to work on anything, as I've been doing a friend's 510/KA swap dang near full time. It's been fun, and we are getting really close to firing it up... He had to work today, so I thought I'd use the break to get the N42/N42 2.8L up on the engine stand. WAY too MOFO difficult inside my storage unit. You guys with a garage and/or plenty of room, you BETTER not take that $hyt for granted, don't be lazy too often, and USE it as often as you can. 'Cause some of us have to work TWICE as hard as you to do the exact same things. Read on... First, I walk the 1/2 mile to the storage facility where my engine, and extra parts are. I was greeted with oil all over the floor. AWESOME. Apparently, I brought home an oil pan full of oil(doesn't everyone drain all the fluids when they yank a motor?), and the engine was leaking it out of the oil filter boss, where it was leaning against the wall. God, If I get caught by the Management, I'm history. I pray it's not visible in the adjacent units. So, I walk 1/2 mile back to my parent's house, grab a few more tools and some cat litter. What a huge mess. Whoever put that CF clutch on, left one bolt out, and torqued the living pi$$ outta the bolts. AWESOME. I hope that didn't throw the balance off too much, and screw up my journals. I tell you, 95% of the idiots out there have no business touching a wrench, ever. I have story after story. Then, I didn't have any bolts long enough to mount the engine on the stand, so I had to walk a mile to Kragen's(No, I don't have a running car). They didn't have any 10x 1.5's long enough to go through the stand arms, into the block. AWESOME. Luckily, the local hardware store had some, if not overpriced. My God, everything here in Cali is so damn unreasonably expensive. So, it took me nearly 4 hours to mount an engine on a stand. AWESOME. What a day. Guest Widebodys30
So, I am almost done with my friend's 510 KA swap. When I started, all that was done was the cross member was bolted in. SO, a huge undertaking. Uncountable amounts of fabbing, problem solving, part runs, ect. Whew. Should be running this weekend. But, my Z is in my mind all the time, and can't wait to get back to work. All I've been able to do is parts ordering, minor polishing, little things here and there. So, for an update on what's current on the build, here's a list: Rather hot, but very street driven daily driver, weekend canyon carver. My build specs: Standard bore, low mileage N42 2.8L. The head is a ported, blueprinted N42, CC'd and polished combustion chambers. Delta Cams Dual pattern grind, 742-311 Intake: 270 duration, 220 duration @ .050 lift, .470 valve lift Exhaust: 280 duration, 232 duration @ .050 lift, .480 valve lift This build, I will be unfortunately using the stock dished pistons(I know, I know), but next time, flat tops(probably within 5-6,000 miles, ASAP to be sure). I have a set of Mikuni 40PHH's, Polished Mik Short Runner Manifold. And a decent used(very thick material, unknown brand) 3-2-1 header I will be using. Primaries are kinda small-ish, but I got it free, so I will coat it very, very thickly with ultra high temp VHT header paint, then wrap it. What the hell, it was free!! I might post some pics for some help with identification, as I've never seen one with 3 bolt header flanges on both 2 1/2" collectors. Full length, mandrel bent exhaust is 2 1/2 inch. Ignition will be a converted 280Z N/A Diz(yet to buy). Accel Super coil(the huge square one). I will only be winding it to @ 7,000 max RPM. Manual 4 spd. Trans(for now). Rear is stock R180 3.40 ratio (for now). Rear tires are 245/60R14 monted on 14*9 P/S slotted mags.
Guest Widebodys30
Got my Delta Cams Regrind today. Very nice looking piece, but it was missing a third of the cam! Something got confused on my order and I got an L series cam. Called 'em back, and they said they would send me the right cam immediately. Also, I specifically asked for an internally oiled cam. I will be using both cam oiling systems. They also do not warranty their cams UNLESS you run ZDDP. Sent me a nice Tee shirt, calendar and 4 stickers as well. Very nice people. Guest Widebodys30
Started tearing the 2.8L down. Block looks GREAT. Pistons look decent. Spun bearing on #5 con rod. NO bearing left, save some copper color on the crank. So please tell me about how how MORE folks should turn wrenches, when they can't even take care of a tough as nails Z engine? Effin' lotta clueless on how stupid they REALLY are DUMB F^(*$ out there. I HOPE the crank in my extra 2.6L is standard sizes, and the rods are all good. I'm glad no one wanted it when it was on CL, or here. Might just save my ass. Let us Pray...
Guest Widebodys30
The 2.6L crank, con rods, and respective journals are all BEAUTIFUL!!! Prayer answered. And, I guess not everyone who owns a car is an idiot.
