I took my flexplate off (used to be an auto on there) and I notice that the crank has an unthreaded hole that matches up with a 7th hole in the flywheel. So, is there supposed to be a pin in there? I have an LS1, but something like this should be the same as in the SBC. I was all set to put this sucker in there but I'm worried that this apparent pin hole wants a pin in it. There's no mention of it in my shop manual, but it could just be something "obvious" (as long as your car didn't originally come with an auto).
