Guest BadKarmaCreepin
i'm in the champaign/urbana, illinois area and need someone who knows what they are doing to squeeze a LT-1 into a 78 280z. i'm also looking for someone in the same vicinity to paint the car for me(should i get it painted before or after?) most of the work will be done by this specialist, so if anyone knows of someone, please please please let me know. one last question: how much does a T-56 transmission cost? i think that's the right one, the 6-speed? thanks. DavyZ
Best bet is to hook up with the local Z clubs or the Indy Z club--they could steer you in the right direction. As far as paint is concerned, talk with the local insurance companies and find out who they suggest do the work, then check them out personally. A 6-speed tranny can run from as little as $800 (I personally know this from one of the members) all the way to $2000+ (which I also know from talking with some of the members). A wrecking yard that specializes in GM product is a good start. HTH, David

Guest Anonymous
You can go to the Internet Z car Club's web site and they have a worldwide listing of Z clubs. Address is Zhome.com
Guest Anonymous
There is the Windy City Z Club in Chicago, and there is the Gateway Z Club (http://www.gatewayzclub.com) in St. Louis. I am a member of the latter. I am putting an LT-1 and a 6 speed into my 76 280z. I do not know of a shop that will do the conversion for you completely, but feel free to contact me outside of the list since I am relatively close to you. My project is currently at the stage of having its cage installed. Soon after I will test fit my motor and then off to the body shop it goes. How much of this conversion do you want to do yourself? Any of it? - Rob MacMorran secretary@gatewayzclub.com
tsumner
You should be able to find a streetrod builder in the area. These guys are used to putting together hybrids of various age and vintage. If they can't build the car for you they should be able to reccomend another shop. I have found that the streetrodders are as helpfull and friendly as the hybrid z crew.
