clutchdust
i just have the haynes manual for the rebuild i'm working on. problem is, it's been months since i took the original engine apart. i'm putting the chain tensioner back together but the instructions are lousy ("refit the tensioner"). is the tensioner block sealed against the block? gasket or sealant? is the tensioner piston spring loaded? i hope not, i have no spring. finally, the chain guide in my kit is slotted but i can't fit it according to the pic in the manual. the only position i can fit it positions the guides as close together as possible (make sense?). the only way i think i could get the tensioner further positioned further apart would be to dremel out the slot slightly. what's the deal? blue72
I'll try and answer as best as I can remember for you. 1. There is no gasket between the tensioner housing and engine block. 2. The tensioner shoe piston should be spring loaded. The spring pushes it against the timing chain. 3. I think the general idea is to have the guides closer together rather than further apart. Only the tight side guide has any adjustment, and mine only had an adjustment slot at the top.

HowlerMonkey
Don't sweat the sealing........not oil fed. I'm sure someone can send you a spring from this site. Tension is one thing but reisistence to breaking is another. Best to stay with stock.
