wingnutooa
I'm trying to get my 280 put back together and have decided to pull the troublesome water cock valve out of the loop i've got a new heater core and everything is setup with couplers in the fire wall, to reconnect the hoses. does it matter which way the water travels through the heater core and which hose is the pressure side on the engine. Front water pump hose or the one coming from the back of the block?
wingnutooa
Heater Core: Bypassed water cock valve Firewall heater hose connection Pressure side so this is for all the people searching for this info on google like i did. one of the heater core ports in the fire wall is higher than the other. this is the heater core inlet. it comes from the back of the engine. you'll notice a very short heater hose. the lower one gets connected to the long hose going to the water pump. you might think that since its connected to the water pump that its the pressure side and should go to the inlet of the heater core. NO! its connected into the same suction side of the water pump that draws water from the bottom part of the radiator. on the inside of the car if you're trying to eliminate the water cack valve, you'll need to re-use the 90* hose that connects the outlet of the heater core to the valve. on the water cack valve the water goes straight from the heater core right out through the fire wall. its the INLET side of the water cack valve that does all the fancy shmancy stuff. there i just used a peice of 5/8 heater hose. on the heater core one of the ports is lower than the other. the lower port is the inlet. this causes the water to fill up the heater core and push it out the top. NOT the other way where it would enter the heater core and gravity would take it down to the other port. pushing it up through ensures that it travels as much of the heater core as possible. to make sure you dont cut through your hoses on the fire wall with the absense of water cack valve. i used two plastic 5/8 heater hose couplers and 2 5/8 rubber gromets. you'll have to oil the grommet a little to get the coupler through but thats good.
