MatMan
Hello. I hope all of you are well. Here's the scoop: I am out of town for a few weeks on a temp job, and my wife called me this morning to tell me that on her way to work the timing belt in her 2001 PT Cruiser let loose at 40MPH. The 2.4L motor is an interference motor, so I assume that the valves are toast as well. The mechanic the car was towed to told me that the remove/replace will be $1500. He wants to replace the timing belt then see if the head is damaged. IF the head is good, great. If not, which is the way my life has been headed lately (read: it's toast), rebuilding the head is going to be around $2300 more. This car is not even worth the $4 grand... I am up that proverbial creek. I found that V&O Auto Dismantling in Rancho Cordova has a used motor with no warranty for $1800. Then I need someone to help me remove the dead motor and install this new one, if I go that route. Does ANYONE in the greater SAC area have access to a remanufactured motor, and have the wherewithall to help a poor schmuck install the thing? Of course all food and travel expenses will be paid, maybe even a stipend...we can work something out. Thanks. Mat

Z-Dreamer
MatMan, Not sure if the PM went through but I have a friend that owns a auto repair shop in Rancho Cordova and he can get remanufactured engines from Jaspers that come with a 3year/100,000 mile warranties. He is a business man so he does have to eat, but is is competent, honest and fair. Mark
