cory's 240z daily project

Recommended Posts

well ive been on this forum for sometime now and haven't felt compelled to start a project thread until now... here's the story

well i got this 1972 240z a year or so ago(previously owning a 280zx but hated the look)... found it in kentucky near lexington...the previous owner just did a full brake tune up on it before i got it replacing everything the dealt with braking, also put new tires on it and put brand new weber dgv's 32/36's on it, and redone the whole interior with marble blue vinyl..it had the original motor and trans ...i drove it back spitting and sputtering the whole way...after some time and work i ditched the dgv's for some good ole' su's and drove it like that but it still spit and sputtered..so i parked it and started working...i put on..

a clean gas tank(old one was cruddy and rusty, explains the sputtering)

zx starter

new battery

zx alternator swap

zx distributor swap

axcel coil

fully pollished n36 intake with non egr balance tube

electric fuel pump

new fuel lines and filters

racing bucket seats(more for comfort than looks...and oh are they comfy)

full poly bushing kit

1" sway bar in front

7/8" sway bar in back

rebuilt the 4 screw su's

new clutch master cylinder

new clutch slave

new clutch hose

well the car was drivable but was not to my complete satifaction because the p.o. rebuilt the engine but did a crappy job(oil was coming from every whole in the motor although the engine still ran ok i knew it was near the end...plus the clutch slipped all the time

skip to friday of last week..

i was driving to work and about 1/8 of a mile from work when my motor completely locked up well had it tow'd to my buddys house where i started pulling the motor(found out that the oil cam bar bolts came loose and ruined all the valves)

well i went the whole nine yards and replaced just about everything f54 block, flattop pistons, p79 head, new clutch kit, resurfaced flywheel 5 speed trans, rear main seal, intake/exhuast gasket,(i have a headgasket and valve stem seals but waiting to see if i wanna do some head work or get a different head) and swapped everything over from the l24 with a set of 6-2 headers...jtr radiator, new hoses...

to do list...

i have the zedd findings floor pans and frame rails just need to be installed..

also have all original black interior just needs to be installed...

need to install the rest of the bushing kit(the rear)

also have new suspension..kyb struts with ibox springs needs to be installed

also need to tune carbs for the l28(was tuned for l24)

and set ignition timing for l28

also need to fix leak in exhuast(its getiing on my nerves...but makes a nice flame :flamedevi )

wish list...

electric cooling fan

mild cam(and mild prepped street head)

front air dam

my goals are 200 hp and torque at the wheels on a pretty reliable motor...with a very stock looking apearance...let me know what you think or if you have any tips...thanks

cory
