Drax240z
I am wondering what the hell this thing is. Hehe. Can anyone help me? I'm guessing voltage regulator? If I am going with an IR alternator do I need it? ------------------ "Nothing is fool proof to a sufficiently talented fool." Richard Lewis - 1972 240z, Powered by a Nissan 2.8L Turbo Inline 6. spotfitz
Yes, you are correct on both accounts or is that the fuel pump?. [This message has been edited by spotfitz (edited April 11, 2001).]
Evan Purple240zt
Yes that is the regulator. You wont need it depending on what you do. I threw mine in the circular file because i am using a GM alternator on my car. I just ran new wiring. Not down with the stock stuff, too small for my tastes. That your meathook? lol Evan
GrayZee
I had a 240 that wore out a alternator, so I replaced it with a newer one with IC regulator and higher amperage. Bolted up fine, I believe that it had a different plug. (no big deal) However here's the strange part, you see I left the old regulator alone and I found that the car would start and charge but when you turned the ignition off the engine would continue to run! So I unplugged the external regulator and everything was fine. I never bothered to try to follow the wiring system to understand why it does this. Anyone else have that experience? Drax240z
Cool guys, yeah that's one of the meathooks there. I grabbed a free 60A alternator out of a 280zx turbo car, so I figured I'd use that instead of the stock 45A unit. If that fails I'll grab the cheapy GM alternators... Still waiting on MSA for my flywheel bolts... argh. ------------------ "Nothing is fool proof to a sufficiently talented fool." Richard Lewis - 1972 240z, Powered by a Nissan 2.8L Turbo Inline 6.
