DavyZ
Well, as you know, I posted that my R200 differential was leaking--it turns out the leak was from the bottom drain plug. I took the advice given from several members and did the work. Here is a list of what I did (simple and effective): 1) I drained the diff of remaining oil. Not good--there was only about 1/3 cup of oil left. I hope and pray that the previous owner had closer to a quart in it when they ran the car. Keep in mind I have had this diff for about 2 years and it has leaked a lot onto cardboard. 2) I removed the drainplug and cleaned the very dirty threads overnight in B-12 engine parts cleaner. I also cleaned up the threads on the coverplate as well. 3) I put liquid teflon on the drainplug threads and screwed it in as much as I thought prudent. Since it doesn't seem to bottom out, I was very careful and didn't over or under torque the plug. 4) I decided 80W/140 RedLine diff oil was a good choice so I filled it with that. The only problem was that I couldn't budge the upper fillplug. The diff is not in a car, so leverage was a PITA. This is not the best idea, but I pulled the vent tube at the top and filled it slowly from there using a fabbed funnel. The oil pours like cold honey and looks as delicious--no I didn't try it... 5) The results seem to be good! No leaking at all in a week and the diff is filled with good quality fluid. Thanks to all who gave their advice! David
