Guest Anonymous
How many of you have used this and how acurate did you find the results to be. I am pretty sure that my speedometer is off and wanted to check it with this. Anyone know any dependable ways to test calibration(other than paying what the service station asks for the calib.) Modern Motorsports Ltd
If their aren't any marked 'test' sections on any highways near you (they're for odomoter and I assume speedo is linked..) you can just head out with a bud and both do 80mph or whatever speed you wish. Or have one clock off 10 miles and see how close you come to same answer... using gear ratios etc comes close but your tire diameter isn't that precise (maybe it is for these purposes but I'm skeptical), and even marking off pavement and your tire/rolling it for a rotation or two/remarking pavement/measure distance b/t and taking your tire circumference from that will be slightly different as tires change shape somewhat at varying speeds but just driving with a friend side by side is simplest IMO and close enough for our purposes
Kevin Shasteen
I've used the studio before-but have not compared it too anything-more or less just checking it out. If you'ld like; give me your car's spec's & I'll check my math & obtain what your car's mph & rpm's should be. I need to know: 1) Year of Car 2) Trans (factory trans for your year?) 3) Rear Gear Ratio 4) Tire Size (what does the sidewall read) Kevin, (Yea,Still an Inliner)
Guest Anonymous
Another way, if you know someone with a GPS (Global Positioning Satelite)reciever who can take a ride with you, most of them have speed functions. Lone
DavyZ
They do? Lone do you own one of those things and do they work pretty well? I've seen them advertised, but they are too $$$ IMO. A Vericom (or like unit)computer has all of the functions I need and is much less. David
Guest Anonymous
Yeah, the one my brother has, has speed as one of the functions. Its actually a very cool deal, we used it when we went down to Tombstone. It suction cups on the dash and you can clearly see where the roads are, whats coming up, which direction your headed (which is very cool, the brain is easily fooled into thinking your heading in the same direction when in fact you've gone off course), zoom in or out. Anyway we'd bring up the map with speed displayed and just park it at 65 ( a engine imposed speed his 64 ranchero has a 302 4sp and thats about 3500 revs in that car we were pulling the harleys too though). Not sure what he paid for it, but he's a Dr. so money wasn't an issue for him.
