bigseth
I just picked up a mint 81 280zx non-turbo that has been garage kept all its life, but has been sitting for the last 4-5 years. It wouldn't get any fuel at first so I blew out the fuel lines, cleaned out the sending unit, replaced the gummed up fuel pump and it fired right up. The only problem is that it is running extremely rich and has no power if you try to drive it. I downloaded the FSM and checked all the efi components through the ECM harness. They all checked out fine so I am leaning towards fuel pressure. When the regulator goes bad will it piss gas out of the vacuum port? I haven't checked the fuel pressure yet, but when I hooked my vacuum pump to the regulator it never seemed to run any different when i applied different amounts of vacuum to it. What else should I check since the car was sitting for so long? Could the fuel injectors be so gummed up that they are hanging open and causing this? I unplugged the cold start and it had no effect could it be hng open? Just looking for a few suggestions before I start tearing into it. renatodato
Did you check the o2 sensor? Check the harness to the o2 sensors too. They get corroded and brittle after sitting for long periods of time. Get a stethoscope to listen to the fuel injectors. You should hear a 'tick, tick, tick' sound at each injector. If not, change them.
bigseth
Thanks, for the advice. I will check the o2 sensor, but i just removed the pressure regulator and applied about 15lbs of vacuum to it and it wouldn't open up, so I'm thinking that is part of the problem. HowlerMonkey
If you are sure it is rich, I would check the sensor near spark plug #5 for corrosion on the connector. If this sensor does not have good connection of is unplugged, the car will run extremely rich. It might just be that the regulator being stuck or clogged but it seems you are all over that. That can be checked by pulling off the return line and seeing if you have flow out.
bigseth
Yeah it was a the regulator sticking. I changed the FPR and it started to run much better then I finally got my cap rotor and wires in so I installed them and it now runs like a brand new car. Thanks for all the help.
