srezzo
Hi, I was trying to hunt down a brake fluid leak and noticed that the bottom of the brake booster is rusted and damp. The moisture smelled like brake fluid. A search on this site had me thinking that the master cylinder could be leaking fluid to the bottom of the booster thus removing the paint and causing the rust. I removed both the master cylinder (to replace) and booster (to clean and repaint). When I removed the booster I noticed there was brake fluid INSIDE the booster. Can I empty the fluid and reuse the booster or am I looking at having to replace it? Are these pretty straight forward to rebuild? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Sari
zedsn
Hi Sari, yes sounds like you need to replace your brake master cylinder. I would try to empty the booster of brake fluid and reuse it. It should be fine if there are no pin holes made after you cleaned and painted it.
