PA240 Posted September 1, 2009 Share Posted September 1, 2009 So let me start by introducing myself. My name is Neil and im a collage student from Pennsylvania. This is the first project I have ever attempted like this. I was looking for a project car for my father and I to work on and the 240z fit the bill perfect. The old man wanted to do an old Camero or Mustang but me being cooler than that wanted to do something JDM. I came across the 240 when looking for old school jdm cars. My dad liked the fact that it was old and thus easer to work on. He also liked the rear wheel drive and sexy Americanish lines. After a few months of looking for the right car we finally found a winner. It was a 72’ 240z. This is the car on the day we picked it up Everything looked good and we thought we had a "rust free" car. PA240 Posted October 18, 2009 Author Share Posted October 18, 2009 UPDATE- Before i could start working I needed to clean the shop. I hate working in a mess. Before: After: Now it was time to do work. Started with fixing some holes Drivers side:Its not totally done. The triangle in the right corner needs to be filled and it needs some more grinding. I think it came out ok for our first time doing body work and it will be covered by the fender. Passengers Side: This side was not as bad. The patch was much easier the 2nd time. Next up was some undercoating removal. Started using a propane torch and stiff putty knife for this. It works much better than a heat gun. After the thick stuff is removed it cleans up nicely with a wire wheel and some lacquer thinner. Soon got tired of that so i decided to see what was behind the bondo on the driver side quarter. The bondo was about a 1/4-1/2 in thick in the worst parts. It looks like the quarter rusted so they pushed it back and tacked this up. The inner More cover up lol Thought i would check the other side This was just covered up And the inner Filled some holes Some things i wana sell: L24, E88 head, 66,000 miles when pulled, old style su's, I have the 5speed someone could use this I have a full factory ac system including the manual Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
PA240 Posted November 2, 2009 Author Share Posted November 2, 2009 Update: Went home this weekend and finished up the rotisserie. Putting the car on was a bit of a trick but we got it with 3 guys. Wouldn't want to do it alone. Amazingly the car didn't fall on the ground. Success fells good. I ran out of time to take good phots but i did snap some on my cell.
