Guest Anonymous
I am so envious of all the pictures I see of these really clean engines, and engine bays. I was wondering what the best ways for me to clean my engine, and engine bay, might be without taking the engine out of the car. If there really isnt a way to do it I may just have to pull the engine out and clean it. Any suggestions?
Guest greimann
If it is really grungy, go to the local coin wash and use the engine cleaner setting. Just be sure to cover your distruibutor to keep it dry. Gunk also makes a degreasing cleaner that is a solvent that has an emulsfier in it that allows you to rinse it with water. It really makes a mess in your driveway though. Otherwise, use an aqueous alkaline cleaner like Castrol Super Clean. After you do the cleaning, finish up the look by spraying tire dressing over everything in the engine and wiping down the hoses. By far, however, the best way is to remove the motor, clean and paint everthing.
Guest bang847
what is easier is to do what modern car companies do. put alot of plastic panels inside the engine compartment so you cant see the real engine.. instead you see a big brand logo... Gosh i hate looking at new car engines..does this annoying trend bother you guys too???

I asked my friend to pop the hood on his new car so I could take a gander at it. all I saw was a big plastic shelf with some faux intake piping we took it off and he said man thats the ugliest engine Ive ever seen. I think its like when kids are cleaning there room and stuff everything in the closet and shut the door.
Guest Anonymous
If I take it to the car wash should I also cover the distributor? Is it ok if it gets wet?
Guest Anonymous
A little like saran wrap over the distributor will help (open cap, put on saran wrap and put the cap back on with the saran wrap still on there), but don't douse the thing. If you do get water in the distributor (it'll lie on the bottom, heat up into steam condense on the cap and stall the car or just not start at all sometimes, seen it happen) spray down into the distributor and around the plate with WD40 then it'll start, something about displacing water or something *shrug*.
