burglebox
wow... just read through this and had to comment, if anything for a virtual shoulder to cry on. about 3 years ago i bought a lemon similar to this one. too bad i hadn't found this forum yet and didn't know what i was doing. i bought a 78 Z for $1200 from some kid who was selling his dad's old drifter/weekend car. it has/had some sweet rims, the upgraded 300zx front rotor/calipers, what appeared to be a decent and shiny, albeit home made paint job, and a dated interior that smelled like a garage the motor was a really strong L28 n/a that had been rebuilt by a local nissan shop; the kid even had all of the paperwork from the shop showing a full rebuild and the engine ran really strong. what i didn't notice was what i found after i began my "restoration": the RUST. tons of it. this thing had no floors, no frame rails, and the headlights appeared to be almost floating in mid air. after pulling up the carpet, i noticed that the floors had been "repaired" by laying down some sheet steel squares and pouring (no kidding) some kind of body filler over the top of them to fill both foot wells. one of the front wheel wells had been "repaired" in a similar fashion. shortly thereafter i took a job traveling full time and put the car in storage where i used to live, Whidbey Island, WA. for those of you who aren't familiar with the Puget Sound, it's wet. really, really wet. ferns growing in the middle of the highway wet. and there it has sat for 2 years at $60 per month. outside. anyone want to buy a bucket of rust?
