degofedal
Hi I recently bought a 5 speed manual '73 240z with a stock L24 and tranny. As i have not experienced this problem with any of my previous cars before i thought some of you guys might be able to help me. I'm having having a problem when i try to quick shift from 2nd to 3rd gear - e.g. during hard accelaration. Take a look at the attached illustration. Fig. 1: when i shift from 2nd to 3rd in a diagonal pattern it results i the gears grinding. Fig. 2: When i shift from 2nd to 3rd by pushing the gearlever straight up (towards 1st) letting it settle in neutral and then put it into 3rd there's no problem. Any suggestions as to what might be the problem? Thanks so much in advance Best regards Degofedal
letitsnow
Synchro is probably bad, when you shift quickly it'll grind. When you let it settle in neutral it gives the synchro time to do it's job and let it slide nicely into gear. The only thing you could do, other than replacing it, is changing the tranny oil, if it's ancient or low it could make it grind a bit or shift hard.
