Dash Carpet Seats and Radio Help???

Well I bought my 280ZX about 7 months ago. When I got the car the carpet was all torn and falling apart the previous owner had a box of carpet he said was for the car. I got the carpet for an extra $50 I just got around to installing it and in doing so I realized that the seats that were put in were well mounted quite odd... metal was bent and drilled to mount seats the screws take about an hour to get in right to mount the seats.... I decided I would put in a radio while I had the carpet and seats out... The car came with a radio that was not installed. I found out that the radio it came with had broken internals and was melted so it didn't get installed. I then bought a new radio to install and now I am trying to find out how to wire it... Most of the wiring on the car has been cut and twisted together and covered with duct tape or electrical tape. So now that I got the radio it seems when I hook it up it wont keep power unless I have the headlights turned on and It seems to be the same no matter what wires I have powering it... I tested with a Voltmeter and if a wire is getting power its only when the headlights are on. turn head lights off and radio turns off but with the headlights off you can press a button on the radio and it turns on for a brief moment then shuts off. It has me stumped... Today I went out to a JY and found a Digital Dash that I bought thinking about doing a swap on that and an original radio that I am thinking about putting in but I just spent a decent amount on the new radio and speakers... I got all the wiring for the dash and radio out of the JY Z. Also does anyone know if it would be possible to wire up the voice warning system to an aftermarket radio even if its AUX input or something. I will post pictures when I get a chance.
