Drax240z
I checked out the POR-15 website today www.por15.com and found that they have a lot more products that look interesting! Especially their high heat manifold paint. (POR-20) They say its good to 1400F... Seems to me that my turbo engine is going to be hot... IIRC up to about 1550F exhaust temperatures. What I am wondering is if the surface temp of my cast manifold will exceed 1400F with an internal temp assumed to be 1550F. Also happily, I found out that they have a gas tank treatment kit. (for sealing) Seems to me to be a good deal when compared to $200+ for a professional job... Guest Anonymous
Get it jet-hotted. The jet-hot 2k will take up to 2k F (go figure!) but is matte finish. A turbo glowing cherry red is what, 1600F easily and probably more.... I like por-15, but I just can't believe that a brush on coating can take the abuse a turbo can dish out. ------------------ Morgan morgan@z31.com http://carfiche.com http://z31.com
BLKMGK
And a coating like Jet Hot or the ceramic coating oe of our members does will coat the INSIDE as well as the outside. On a turbo car you want to keep the heat IN the manifold and allow the hot gas to expand in the turbo for best response. FWIW - the glowing thing really does happen and can be SEEN right through the ceramic coating I had my cast manifolds glowing cherry red at least once with Swain coatings on them. Pretty scary stuff I might add - it was damned hot!
