Guest Anonymous
ok i took the panel on the inside of car that covers rear hatch locking mechanism. the arm tha turns at bottom of mechanism to either locked in which it doesn't contact the actual latch that opens door and unlocked where it sits right above the latch and as you push down on the part you push to open door it opens the latch to then open door. just trying to give a good sense of what i am saying. the latch part presses down and all with same stiffnes as before but the door will not open. i can see teh latch arm come up when push the meachanism stuff down butt the door still wont open is there anything else that could keep the door shut thanks
Drax240z
If I am reading things right, and you can for sure push down the latch part... its probably just stuck to the weatherstripping or something. Best bet is still probably to pop off the retaining clip and take the lock out, and try fiddling with it from outside. I have no lock on mine and all it takes is a finger in the hole pushing on the lever to open it up. ------------------ "Gimme Fuel, Gimme Fire, Gimme that which I desire" -Metallica Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html http://members.home.net/drax77/newpage.html

Drax240z
Huh. Are you sure that the latch is disengaging? Next check... did someone weld it shut? I can't imagine how you'd get it off without having it open... aside from using a sawzall or something. ------------------ "Gimme Fuel, Gimme Fire, Gimme that which I desire" -Metallica Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html http://members.home.net/drax77/newpage.html
Guest Daddyrick
The non-running 280Z that I bought for a project car, did have have a key for the doors or rear hatch. The hatch button would go down with no resistance but would not open. Conclusion--- it was locked. We took a thin 10mm open end wrench and from outside the car, removed the 2 bolts holding the latch in place. The hatch then opened, I removed the lock and had a key made.
