Guest Anonymous
Picked up my car today after getting it mineral blasted last week and am kinda depressed. Not only did they do a sloppy job for the money IMO but also warped the drivers side door. However both doors had bondo previously and so I want to look for some straight doors at the pick-n-pull. My question is... The 240 doors are paper thin and also hard to find, will 260 or 280 doors fit my 240 and if so which would be the best for safety (bracing) and also looks (of the inner panel)? I know looks are subjective, but any opinions?
Guest Anonymous
I think the latches are different on some of those years, some of the other fella's can probably substantiat that. The doors could be reskinned, I think I saw skins at MSA and Victoria British, I've never done it but it doesn't look super hard, basically just folding a lip all around the edges over your existing door shell. Might be worth a look cost wise. Regards, Lone
DavyZ
This topic has come up before, so it may be helpful in using the search function. My early body style 260Z had doors that would have fit on a 240Z, I am almost 100% sure. As for the later 260Z and 280Z doors, I don't believe they are compatable with the earlier cars because the latch mechanism looks different; I'm very unsure that they would be adaptable. I pulled a 280Z door from the junkyard for my 260Z, but ended up returning it because the doors were too dissimilar. I have not tried actually mounting the 280Z doors on a 240Z, but I would really like to hear if someone else has. It may very well require only a different latch. The 280Z doors are so much better in terms of finish, internal mechanism quality, and strength. All things being equal, there is no contest on which I would choose for my car. Guest Anonymous
Thanks for the replies. I picked up some 260 doors this weekend from pick-n-pull and they fit perfect! These doors are quite a bit heavier because of the internal bracing. I will gladly trade a little extra weight for the added safety. Also the doors sound much more solid when shut. Be aware, later year 260 doors will not fit due to different latch mechanism. The car I pulled mine off of was marked as a "74". Almost ready for paint! DavyZ
Thanks for posting that, Jerry! It totally confirmed what I believed to be true. Yeah, those 260Z doors have a fairly good metal bar/brace in them. Glad it worked out! Davy
