Guest Anonymous
Well, most of you know I wrecked my car about a half a year ago. The whole front driver side fender had a huge crack in it and needed repaired. I put TONS of fiberglass on the underside, and then lots of bondo and such on the topside. I did a lot of sanding/priming/sanding until it was perfect again. I then got it painted and it looked great, for about a week. Then little "spiderweb" cracks appeared in it. They have now covered the entire area i fixed, almost the whole front driver side fender. You cant see them unless you are fairly close to them (3 foot or so) and in the right light, but people really notice it. I always have people ask me what happened, and hate explaining. I am going to try to fix it, if i can. Some people tell me it is because i did not put a gelcoat on it before i got it painted. If i cant help this from happening again, im not going to waste my money...BUT....if i can prevent the spiderwebs from happening again, then i will get it painted again. I know you guys are years ahead of me in knowledge, and thought i might seek your help. Thanks guys [ July 07, 2001: Message edited by: Z_Ferrari ] [ July 07, 2001: Message edited by: Z_Ferrari ]
Guest Anonymous
I'm not for sure but I believe that these front ends are painted with a gelcoat. If you didn't use any this will lead to the issue you now face. Also, did you use lightweight body filler with a good elasticity rating? There are different types of filler now and if you use the wrong type, it too will lead to cracking. If you are not proficient in these type of repairs I recommend that you either get someone knowledgeable to help or take it to a bodyshop that handles these types of repairs. Those body kits are rather expensive and you surely don't want to keep fixing little problems like that. Maybe try calling the manufacturer and get their recommendation.
