txitalian
After Googling until my eyes turned red, I'm caving in and posing this question to you guys. I am looking for tire options for a 1977 280z with 15x7 konig rewinds. The results I've found so far, all seemed to have suspension upgrades, so since mine is stock, what would some choices be? It's my weekend cruiser...,no high performance driving through the twisties, lol. Just want it to look good. thanks
Drax240z
For combined wet/dry street only, good all around tire: Yokohama ES100 in 225/50R15 available through the tirerack for $106ea. If you want something that really grips, and are going to autocross and only drive a few thousand miles a year on the street: Michelin Pilot 225/50R15 at tirerack for $125 (a steal!) Also, as per the rules you must have a location listed in your profile.
Dtsnlvrs
If you want to keep the stock diameter, go with a 205/60/
leftover z
If you want to keep the stock diameter, go with a 205/60/15 If you are keeping your suspension at stock height, then 205-60 15's are your best bet. That's what I'm running right now on my 15x7's. I think the 205-50's would be a little too short, and make your wheel well openings look huge. The 205-60 15's look just about right. If you lower your suspension, then I'd go with the 205-50's. Edited March 20, 2010 by leftover z
Drax240z
Note, I said 225/50R15, not 205/50R15. I do however, run 205/50R15 on my car right now. Autocross tires.

Dtsnlvrs
Hey Drax, are 225/50's the same height as 205/60's? Yok AVS ES100 205/60/15 24.7in dia Yok AVS ES100 225/50/15 24.0 in dia I usually run "up" one speedo cog with the 225/50/15 for example, I had a 3.54 rear and used the speedo cog for a 3.7 rear to calibrate the speedo. These are the cogs YELLOW is the 16 tooth for the 3.36 BLACK is the 17 tooth for the 3.54 BLUE is the 18 tooth for the 3.70 WHITE is the 19 tooth for the 3.90 RED is the 20 tooth for the 4.11 PURPLE is the 21 tooth for the 4.
leftover z
Thanks Russell. I was thinking of going with the 225/50's. The width is wider (good), but the overall diameter is smaller (bad for me). I run 3.9 with a 5 speed. Going with a shorter tire is only going to run my cruising rev's higher. I may hold out and get 16's. More tire size choices. I probably will decide to run lower springs anyways, just to fill up the wheel well gap. Still thinking.....
Drax240z
Given that the OP said "no high performance driving" I think they are probably best off with the 205/60R15 anyway... Wouldn't be my first choice (especially with that price on the michelins) but for it to look good, I think a 24.5-25.0" tire fits the Z wheel well best. But there will always be (or should be) some "high performance driving" with any S30...
