James226
First time poster, wish it was under better circumstances.. SO about 2 weeks ago I let my mother borrow my '78 280Z to go to run some errands. I wake up an hour later to her telling me we have a problem. Come to find out the parking brake did not engage fully and the Z rolled down a hill into a road barricade, the big silver things of which the real name escapes me. Luckily enough the big ol' park bench bumper is a-ok! It fit quite nicely in the gap between the two pieces of the barricade. The left rear quarter panel didnt fare so well, the entire right side of the tail light assembly is smashed.(pics here shortly as I'm not at home with my camera.) Now with a rigged trailer light to make it street legal, my baby is holding strong. I come now after tossing some ideas around myself as to what you guys think I should do. Right now my Ideas comprise of A.) ordering a new passenger side body panel and having a local shop replace it (as I lack the tools and know how for this job); B.) Getting a parts car to store in my shed and cannibalize as I run across whats needed, starting with the aforementioned panel; and C.) maybe getting a body kit that would give her more curve, like the subtle Z kit, and installing it. Now each of them has their drawbacks, but right now I'm leaning towards A or C...as I really wouldn't to buy another car. But the problem is where would I find a decent purveyor of new panels or if my body kit idea would be sufficient. What do you guys thing? Again I'll get some pictures as soon as I can. Apologies if this is too wordy or not in the right spot in the forums.
Blown77Z
Hey there James. I live CLOSE to you ! Maybe I can look at the car in person and give you some advise
19762802+2
I say you get a parts car, replace the panel, keep all the parts you want, and sell the rest to pay for a body kit or upgrades. I just recently bought a parts car and I can say it is awesome being able to have most of the parts you need available to you and plus you can sell stuff to make a profit. James226
Lol Blown, Sure, let me get my schedule worked out for the rest of this week and I'll PM you about it. Though if you live really close you might have seen me already. 19745, thats sound advice XD I would just have issues doing that to another Z. I mean there's one pretty much right down the road, it seems ok after a cursory glance. But for 2500, 1k less than I payed for The Black Pearl, I'd be hard pressed to tear it down.. Thats my car's name by the way Anyway, here are some pictures I took this after noon of the damaged portion, From what I can see I'd need a new quarter panel, probably up to the little window on the passenger side, a new tail light bezel/lens set...probably the sockets for the bulbs and all that stuff. I also have a creeping feeling the inlet to my gas tank is dented too. It would explain the sudden burps of gas that splash back on me -.- But, to the pictures. I'd tried to minimize the rest of the car...as its pollen season and I made the mistake of parking under a pine tree. But thats the damage. There's some chipping on the door too, but thats just a paint thing.
holden_fan2005
Does everything shut like it should? (doors etc). That crease doesn't look good!
