Driver's side door won't open up from the inside..

This has been a problem since I've owned the car but I figured I'd get around to fixing it now. What all is needed to fix this issue? The door opens up okay from the outside. The door will not unlock from the outside, but the lock is still functional. Any ideas?

Your inside door handle rod going to the door latch may have bent with year's of use and therefore not long enough to activate the latch. Also be advised that the internals on different years of Z are different. for example 76 is far different than a 77. Also there can be found a small threaded plastic square nut on a threaded rod going to the latch that operates the latch that has to be adjusted tighter to contact a metal fitting because it has a tendancy to unthread it self over the years. This "loose fit" can cause locking problems and door opening problems. Also with the door panel off wd 40 and grease everything

Chris.. I am batting zero lately on PVC... Take that door panel off. Buy one of those cheap thin black metal door panel tools to get under the plastic panel retainers to remove the door panel. and inspect every thing to find the problem if it takes all week.I memtioned two possibles and that is only two out of a possible 10 ? The last door problem I fixed is still a mystery since I handled everythong in there 3 times before it worked Just try one thing at a time.

Chris,

I fixed mine by removing the panel and applying WD40 to all the joints and moving parts. pay attention to the parts in the bottom left hole. If nothing is broken that will probably fix it.

Get that thing fixed! A fast exit may save your a$$. 2thumbs.gif

Yeah there are a good number of rods that can come undone and i can see both of your problems happening by either wear or lack of lubrication, get under there and check out all those parts, if your unsure of how it should look then either open up your passenger door or get yourself a manual and look it up... Good luck to ya, certainly dont get caught in a situation where something like that will endanger your life dude! twak.gif
