Can I use a 280zx fuel pump on my 240z?

I have a 71 240z and is all stock at the moment, l24 dual su carbs working with an electric fuel pump. I been having alot of trouble lately to get my car to run. My first problem started about 4 months ago. I would drive the car and the first few 20 to15 minutes I drove, my car would kind of choke. It would all of a sudden not advance anymore. I would give it gas but it would just stumble. So I figured it had something to do with my carburetor. I had a carburetor "specialist" check it out and diagnosed the problem. He told me that it was most likely that my tank was filthy and whatever was in there was clogging up my carburetors. So what I did was take down my tank and send it to be cleaned and sealed. As I took it down I saw that one of the vent hoses was completely broken and I had a wide open hole. There was alot of fine powder all around the tank, and that was the reason my fuel wasn't being burnt right. I did my best at cleaning my carbs, I didn't send it out for an acid bath because I had done that about six months ago,and i also blew air into my fuel linesto get all that powder and filth out. Anyway, So I got my tank back and connected it back up. I tried starting it but I wasn't sure my dad connected the fuel pump the right when I went under the car I followed the positive wire and realized it wasn't connected at all. It had a little fuse were it's supposed to break but wasnt makin contact. So we connected it up and it still wasn't working. So maybe the fuel pump was being over worked because of the powder/ dirt or whatever it was. Now i have tried looking for an electric fuel pump everywhere and I just can't find one. Now my buddy has an extra one from his 280zx. Will that work and fix my problem? I'm sorry i know it's really long but if I can get some help that be awesome thanks!

Your car should have a mechanical fuel pump connected to the head of the engine, as it's a 240z, I am under the impression that the 260z's had the electric/mechanical setup but I'm probably wrong. Anyways the 280zx pump won't work it pumps out about 30+ Psi, For the carbs you need about 3-4 psi, Maybe less I'm not a SU expert. You could run a fuel regulator with the 280zx pump but IMO thats just going to cause the pump to burn out over time. The best thing to do would probably be to buy a new aftermarket pump that should pump about the right psi (do some research on this) and that should fix that IF the pump is the problem.

There may be something else that is causing the pump not to work, You should probably do some more reading about the SU fuel system and some other things for your 240z If you don't have the Factory Service manual from Xenons30.com you should probably get that and study it. Good luck.
