HarrisonTX
I've searched for info on TKO's here several times over the years. There is little to NO information that I get back. (see how long I've been a member?) Who actually has a TKO in their Z? I know they are a little wide up top, and I'm just curious about fitment issues. Also, I'm running the JTR kit, and I'm curious as to where the shifter will come out. '74 260, and I just started pulling the 6 popper out lastnight. After years, it's finally happening. I have a tko500.
jt1
I've been running a tko since about 2004, putting about 400 whp thru it in road race app. No issues, shifts smoothly, GM synchromesh fluid. In the jtr position with a Pro 5.0 shifter, I had to trim about a half inch from the front of the shifter opening. jt

A half inch off the plastic console, or the metal? Either is no sweat. I will be running a Steeda shifter. Same exact spot as a PRO 5.0 though, I imagine. kamikaZeS30
If I had the money I would run a TKO. Right now I have a Camaro T5 with a mustang short-throw (similar to the pro 5.0) modified to fit the GM tail-shaft mounting. Could you guys post pics of your set-ups? Also, what are the differences in mounting, do the casings not utilize the standard GM mounting?
jt1
IIRC, you can mount the shifter 3 different places on the trans. In the rear location, I had to trim about 1/2" of metal on the tunnel to clear the Pro 5.0 shifter ring, which is a good bit larger than the tremec shifter. I also had to trim the console some. No problem with the tunnel, the stock trans mounts had been removed by the PO. The case and input shaft fit stock GM bellhousings and clutches, but the output shaft is ford toploader, so you have to use a conversion U joint. jt
