Mounting up rb20 engine with some problems

hello everyone having some trouble here and hoping someone here can help

i bought a rb20det engine from a friend of mine, and bought the mckinny solid mounts to drop in, so just to clarify im dropping in a rb20det engine in an 72 datsun 240z

and well i put the mounts on the crossmember subframe and something doesnt look quite right so heres a pic and can anyone tell me if this is the wrong mounts or am i installing them wrong please?

i look at the mounts on the rb20 and see really there is no space to put the engine between these two also they seem to be leaning on one side

The RBs DO actually sit at a bit of a slant, You aren't going mad.

Yes, Kiwi is correct the engine sits with the drivers side lower than the passenger side (lhd). The Drivers side sits 1~1.5 inches lower.

so they are suppose to be slanted like that with that minimal space inbetween them?

The block isn't very wide. There is alot of people using those mounts with no problems.

It'll be fine, the weight of the engine will set everything into place.

If you do a Google site search of HybridZ for Thargard RBxx Pan images, there are a few good pics of the way the base of the pans are angled, showing the pans sitting flat on the ground with the bolt flanges sitting at a decided angle.

 

I went out to the shed where my RD28 block is located and ran a tape measure across, mounting face to mounting face the block is roughly 25cm wide, call it 10" or so. Since the RB/RD series share the same block basics I didn't bother going the few Km to the back hayshed down the farm to measure the RB20's I have down there.

 

From the looks of your pics, you have plenty of room to bolt in a 10" wide block between those mounts.
