My mechanic called me today and asked me if I could help him find a part for a customers 280zx that he has in the shop. He is in need of an ecu number A11-652 805. The car is a 1983 zx non turbo 5 speed. If anyone has one they want to sell or knows where to get one would be greatly appreciated.

Wish he would split them up, everything wasting away to the elements... too bad

Hi I was looking around the internet about information about this and I came across this thread and some pictures that are in it: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=2954.0 I really like the flat black 280zx pictured there and people were saying that that persons car was from this forums. Does anyone know more information? Im not sure what to search for on this forums to find the thread those pictures came from.

Yea I ended up ordering the early brackets. I got the ones off of ebay from zspeed240 they are aluminum also got the rear brackets because mine were really bent up. Havent got to my house yet but they are shipped and on the way.

Do they only sell them for 260z's? What about rear bumpers thats really cheap price a whole lot better than a grand for those stainless ones on ebay

Yea I have been looking all over for others with the chrome and I guess a past owner did do it, never really paid close enough attention to grills till I got mine I just thought it was originaly there from factory haha guess not well it looks good to me good luck to anyone else that wants to do it too.

I will be sure to post something about them when I get them. Another reason I am thinking of getting them is that they look like they have less holes and don't have the ones for where the bumper guards go, and im not planning on putting my guards on I want more of the euro look so I hope they work out good.

Got some edge trim from pepboys for 10 dolars 18 feet but that still isnt enough i think i need like 7 more feet to finish the last 2 strips of the grill. here are some before and after. First pic of the grill has the old chrome stuff off of it and laying below it looks like it didnt need to be replaced in the picture but in person its nasty.

Thanks for the info, I haven't been able to put up my bumper to the car close yet because I still haven't cut off the sidetabs but if the 73 bumper is different I think I might just end up buying those new stainless bumpers off of ebay since mine are pretty bent up and going to need a straightening and rechrome. Hi guys I just wanted to throw out an idea that I had to day when taking off my front grill maybe someone has already tried it. The chrome strips that are on the grill are just put on with adhesive and it looks really similar to the door edge chrome trim that they sell at like pepboys and autozone. Tomorrow im going to go see if they have strips that are of similar thickness and then replace it on the grill. Well not shock absorbers but the brackets are really big and heavy and at the end where it mounts to the bumper it has a piece of round tubing on each bracket. Also the brackets mount down to where the bottom of the radiator support is i think the earlier brackets don't mount there

Thought I would give another update to everyone thats given me such great advice. Well the 300zx was fun for like a month and then I realized that im not going to want it in a few years and just didnt feel like fixing the body work that it needed in the rear. Plus that gas was pretty bad because most of my driving was ending up being off highway so i found this guy that wanted to trade his miata for my 300. I decided to do it since he had the tranny and diff rebuilt and it would be really good on gas. Let me just say that the miata ended up being the worst car ever I hated it and will forever hate miatas haha. I ended up selling the miata and made more money off of it than I paid for the 300 and now my DD is a 91 240sx and its a lot better and doesnt need any work. But whats made me happiest after all this is a family friend that i didnt even know owned a Z sold me his for cheap. It has its little rust spots one on the door one on the part inside the hatch but above the tailights near where the hatch locks but its floor boards are solid and it has everything, all its nobs, plasitcs, emblems, bumper guards and risers it doesn't run though but that doesnt bother me im happy with driving my sx everyday and am having even more fun just cleaning and fixing little things here and there on the z that don't cost money untill i have the money to drop into it. I want to say thank you to everyone that gave me their advice and im so happy that now i finally have a 240z!

Your car is so amazing! Its a great inspiration for what I want mine to become. Are those xxr 513 rims on the car? If so thats what I want to put on mine what size are they and tire size?

Yea the 73 has some what of a crash bumper different from the earlier years. The 73 has more space and black ruber/metal pieces the fill in the extra gap between the car and the bumper but its not as much as the 260 and 280's

Hi everyone I finally got a 240z project! I plan to just slowly work on it and eventually have a very nice 240. First thing that I want to start work on is getting the bumpers to fit close to the body like the pre 73 z's. Ive been trying to search to find the answer to this but I keep on finding people wanting to know how to get convert the 280z bumpers to 240z bumpers. I took off the bumper and bracket from my car and was wondering if I will have to modify my brackets or if buying pre 73 brackets will work. There are these 2 vacant holes on the inside of where the headlight bucket is on both sides that are not being used it looks like this is where the earlier brackets could fit but im not sure. Also I know the side tabs on the 73 bumper I have will need to be cut off and moved forward more to mount on the fender in the same place. What else do I need to do? If anyone has a picture of how the early z bumper brackets mount onto the car that would be greatly appreciated

Thanks I will be sure to look and see if thats the case in the morning when I can have some daylight to look at it I hope its just a case of something being loose and not something being broken.

It just happend to me about 30 min ago and im not about to go out right now and tear my car apart i just wanted to know if anyone else maybe had this problem so i could sleep a little easier tonight

Hi eveyone im glad to say that i can join the 300zx owners club! I bought one last week and i love it and everything is fine untill today... Tonight when i was driving on the freeway in 5th gear i went to downshift into 4th and i heard like a little clink sound and the shifter got a little loose. I got off the freeway and like when i pull on the shifter i can lift it up a little now. When in 1st 3rd and 5th if i dont hold it forward it falls a little bit and clanks around. I can shift into all gears still its just that I have to hold it because it wants to fall or depress downward when inbetween gears or when in 1 3 5. Has anyone had this problem also? Im hoping its just some part of the linkage that come loose or maybe something that snapped but can be repared. Any ideas guys?

Well guys i really apreciate all the advice that everyone has given me. I looked at about 4 240s and like i just didnt get the right feeling from them to be driving the particular ones i looked at everyday. This last week i did buy a 91 300zx na though and i love it! I just need to do a little body work in the rear of the car but mechanically as of now everything is sound. My dream z is still a 240 but i feel like it would be better to wait until i get out of college for that thanks again everyone

Thanks for all the advice guys I have decided that it will be best to wait on an old z until i start my career. Ive ran it across in my head that maybe i should get a 90+ non turbo 300zx ive seen a few in my budget with around 150 thousand miles do u guys think i should stay away from these also since they are 20 years old or would they still be pretty reliable?

Hi im new to the forums and this is my first post. For about 2 months now i have been looking to buy a 240 or 260z. I want these years because i live in Ca and want to get around the smog laws here. The z's that i have gone to look at seem like they will be too much work to keep running as an everyday driver and im on a budget since im a college student and am currently unemployed. Now here is what i need some thoughts and advice on. I was thinking of buying a 81-83 non turbo 280zx thats in good running condition since they are less expensive than 240's that ive looked at and seem to be more complete for my price range. I was thinking that after driving the zx for a year or two and once I start my job after i get a degree of swapping out the whole drive train of the zx into a 240z shell or just maybe a non running 240z that is complete. Ive been wondering if this would be better for what i want to do. I eventually want to have a 240 or 60 with a L28, five speed and r200 differential and maybe keeping the efi or putting the arizona z car 4 barrel manifold on. Would buying a zx using it for a year then swapping everyting into a 240 be more expensive than trying to find a good reliable 240z?
