Hello all, I am new to the forum but not new to the S30. I've owned several Zs in the past, and have decided to get back into it.
I don't currently have a Z. Way I look at it, why have a car lying around when I can only afford to build the motor right now? So I plan to build a nice turbo motor, bottom up, and eventually find a car to put it in.
So, that being said, obviously I am starting from nothing. So I ask of the knowledge on the board, what do I start with?
I suppose I should I explain what I am hoping to get out of the motor. I do want reliability, and I don't have a specific power goal in mind. I want good power and torque, as much as can be obtained from a fuel injected 2.8L turbo motor, with the possibility of an intercooler.
(One more thing. Please don't tell me I should go with a stroked 3.1L with triple Webers instead. I've had plenty of N/A cars before, I want a turbo'd one)
Lets start with the block:
N42 or F54 ? Does the siamesing on the F54 do anything? Is there a better one over the other?
Head:
N42, N47, P79, P90, P90a? I know the P90 heads are considered turbo heads (and do hydraulic lifters matter), but would an N42 work as well?
Internals: Would stock internals work, or should I go with something different, like forged pistons?
The rest: Can come later. One step at a time of course.
Thanks.
